Merlion A sculpture of a lion head, fish body, and fish tail. As high as 8.4 meters, the top of the lion head is 2.3 meters long, 1.7 meters wide, and weighs 40 tons. The sculpture is now located in Merlion Park, Singapore.

The inspiration for the design of the Merlion lion head is based on the records of the Malay Years. In the 14th century, a prince named San Nero Udama from the "Three Buddhas Kingdom" came to Singapore on the way to Melaka. As soon as he landed, he saw a magical beast, and the attendant told him it was a lion. He therefore named the island "Singapore", which means "Lion City" in Sanskrit, and the fish tail symbolized that the sea was very beautiful.
